Arrival
Arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled audition time in order settle in and warm up.
Prepare for your audition by practicing your chosen music and skills.
Here’s what to expect:
Perform a two-minute solo of your choice.
Play your most advanced scales: one major and one minor.
Percussionists: Demonstrate a variety of your most advanced rhythms.
Complete a brief sight-reading exercise
Membership Form
We offer three options for completing our Membership Form:
The easiest way to submit your membership form is through the online form available on our website. Simply complete the form, and submit it electronically. (this option coming soon)
Hard copies of the membership form will be available at audition locations. You can fill out the form on-site and turn it in directly during your audition.
Download the membership form from our website (insert link to Membership Forms page), print it, and fill it out manually. Once completed, please bring it to the audition or email or mail it to [email protected] or NYSA, PO Box 629, Mt. Vernon, WA 98273.

Following the audition, your student will be placed in one of our groups based on their skill level.
Sinfonette: An inviting entry point for beginning musicians who can read music. This ensemble provides a supportive environment to develop foundational skills and prepare for participation in our larger programs. All symphonic instruments are welcome!
Junior Symphony: A dynamic ensemble for musicians with at least two years of instrumental experience. Members explore symphonic arrangements that build essential skills, preparing them for advanced performance opportunities.
Youth Symphony: The premier ensemble of our organization, designed for accomplished musicians up to the age of 24. This group performs advanced symphonic repertoire, offering a challenging and enriching experience that hones artistic and technical excellence.
