Zach Mason was introduced to the violin at age 5 when the Newbold family, who were close family friends, visited and their oldest daughter Soon Hee played her violin for them. From that moment onward Zach’s course was set. He studied violin, The Suzuki Method, and fiddle with Caroyn Hatch and was a member of her studio’s touring group, The Fiddler’s Hatchery, based out of Sandpoint, Idaho.
As a student and music teacher, Zach picked up several other instruments including trombone, electric bass and drums. He spent his university years performing on both trombone and violin with the New England Youth Ensemble, performing regularly at Carnegie Hall as well as touring extensively throughout Europe, South Africa, and the Middle East. Zach eventually completed a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities focusing on music and science. He then went on to be a band and orchestra director, festival clinician, and guest conductor in Colorado, California, and most recently the Pacific Northwest. Currently he is teaching middle school and high school band at Skagit Adventist Academy. In his spare time, he is also the science and technology teacher for grades 7-12.
